PM Anutin Engages with Leading U.S. Businesses, Highlights Thailand’s Role as ASEAN Hub
Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul held a small-group discussion with leading representatives of the U.S. private sector and delivered remarks at a dinner hosted jointly by the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York City, United States.
The Prime Minister highlighted the changing balance of international politics, growing global competition, and the use of trade protection measures. He emphasized that Thailand is strategically positioned at the heart of ASEAN and serves as a gateway to a market of approximately 700 million people. Thailand also has trade agreements with various countries and economic blocs, while efforts are underway to improve the Thailand Fast Pass system to streamline procedures and reduce complexities for businesses. Thailand has also set a goal of becoming one of the world’s 20 most competitive economies by 2030.
Brian McFeeters, President and CEO of the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, said that Thailand has long been an important partner and strategic market for the United States. He noted that U.S. businesses are ready to work with the Thai Government to explore new opportunities for trade and investment.
Meanwhile, Michael DeSombre, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, noted that there is significant potential for Thailand and the United States to further expand cooperation in investment, technology, energy, and supply chains. He particularly highlighted Superintelligence (SI) technology, which can be applied across a wide range of sectors and create opportunities for Thai and U.S. businesses to grow and succeed together.
