PM Strengthens Thailand–Sichuan Partnership to Expand Trade, Attract Technology Investment, and Create New Opportunities for the Thai People

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul met with Mr. Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, in Chengdu, where both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, science, technology, innovation, tourism, and subnational partnerships. The discussions focused on deepening economic ties between Thailand and western China and expanding opportunities for bilateral growth.

The Prime Minister highlighted Sichuan Province, with a population of more than 80 million, as both a major market for Thai products and a valuable source of investment. He emphasized the opening of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) Office in Chengdu, which will facilitate investment in priority industries such as electric vehicles (EVs), electronics, digital technology, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy. These investments are expected to create jobs, enhance workforce skills, promote technology transfer, and strengthen Thailand's industrial base.

During the visit, the Prime Minister also met with several Chinese companies that have invested or plan to expand their operations in Thailand, reaffirming the Thai government's commitment to supporting foreign investors. นายนฤตม์ เทอดสถีรศักดิ์ เลขาธิการคณะกรรมการส่งเสริมการลงทุน (บีโอไอ) เปิดเผยว่า สำนักงานบีโอไอเฉิงตู ถือเป็นสำนักงานต่างประเทศแห่งที่ 18 มีเป้าหมายสำคัญในการดึงดูดการลงทุนคุณภาพสูงในกลุ่มอุตสาหกรรมแห่งอนาคต อาทิ เซมิคอนดักเตอร์, อิเล็กทรอนิกส์ขั้นสูง, AI, หุ่นยนต์, ยานยนต์ไฟฟ้า (EV) และพลังงานสะอาด เข้ามายกระดับโครงสร้างเศรษฐกิจไทย

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on 18 July 2026 presided over the opening of the Thailand–China (Sichuan) Investment and Economic Forum and the Board of Investment (BOI) Section in Chengdu, held at the Tianfu International Convention Center in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, the People’s Republic of China.

The event was attended by more than 750 participants, including over 150 representatives from the Thai private sector across a wide range of industries, including agriculture, food and beverages, clean energy, healthcare and wellness, chemicals, automotive, industrial estates, and banking, as well as the Federation of Thai Industries, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Trade of Thailand. The delegation was one of the largest Thai private-sector delegations to participate in overseas activities organized by the Thai government.

At the opening ceremony, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation to the Chinese government and the Government of Sichuan Province for supporting BOI in organizing this important forum and the opening ceremony of the BOI Chengdu Section.

He reaffirmed the Thai government’s commitment to reforming Thailand’s economy through three interconnected measures: (1) expediting government procedures to facilitate investment; (2) capacity building of Thai entrepreneurs and workforce to meet the needs of future industries; and (3) strengthening the domestic economy in parallel.

The Prime Minister also attended a luncheon meeting with leading Thai business executives and held discussions with senior executives of major Chinese companies in Thailand’s target industries, including Xiaomi Corporation, ChangAn Automobile, InnoLight Technology, and Eoptolink Technology.

During the discussions, the Prime Minister underscored Thailand’s economic strengths, which included its strategic location at the heart of ASEAN with a market of more than 700 million people, world-class infrastructure and public utilities, and a high-quality workforce.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow also held discussions on behalf of the Prime Minister, with leading Chinese companies in the tourism sector, namely China Sichuan Airlines and Meituan.

The event served as an important platform for Thailand and China to further strengthen their partnership for shared growth. They also reflect that Thailand values Sichuan Province as one of China’s key markets and home to many high-potential companies, particularly in advanced technology and clean energy

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held one-on-one meetings with executives from four leading Chinese companies—Xiaomi Corporation, ChangAn Automobile, Innolight Technology, and Eoptolink Technology—during his visit to Chengdu, China. The meetings were aimed at promoting Thailand as a regional manufacturing hub for electric vehicles (EVs), artificial intelligence (AI), and other high-tech industries, while strengthening economic and investment cooperation between Thailand and China.

The Chinese companies expressed strong confidence in Thailand's investment potential, citing its strategic location at the heart of ASEAN, well-developed infrastructure, investment-friendly business ecosystem, skilled workforce, clean energy initiatives, and government support through the Thailand FastPass program and Board of Investment (BOI) incentives. Several companies already operating in Thailand announced plans to expand their investments, while others considering overseas expansion identified Thailand as a preferred production base for ASEAN and global markets.

Beyond manufacturing, the discussions emphasized long-term collaboration in research and development (R&D), technology transfer, and human capital development. The participating companies highlighted the importance of establishing innovation capabilities alongside production facilities, particularly in AI, data centers, and advanced optical communication technologies. Koh Samui Named World's Best Island for 2026

Koh Samui has been named the World's Best Island for 2026 in the “World's Best Awards 2026” by international travel magazine Travel + Leisure. The island received a reader score of 95.64, ranking ahead of destinations such as the Maldives, Bali, and Milos.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the recognition highlights Koh Samui’s scenic landscapes, cultural heritage, and culinary experiences that attract visitors from around the world. Following the award, the government said it will continue to improve visitor safety and upgrade public infrastructure on the island. Authorities will also strengthen enforcement against illegal nominee businesses and other unlawful activities to ensure a safe and high-quality travel experience.

In addition, the ministry will continue promoting sustainable tourism and enhancing visitor services on Koh Samui. These efforts aim to preserve the island’s appeal and support the long-term growth of Thailand’s tourism industry.
